RUTH OVER THE MOON WITH CALLAWAY WIN
Sometimes, a change is as good as a holiday. When Victor Harbor GC Professional Gavin Stratfold suggested 76-year-old member Ruth Kavanagh switch to a Callaway golf ball she took his advice.
Fast forward a few weeks and Ruth won herself a dozen of her new favourite golf balls when she finished top of B Grade in South Australia in Month One of the Lexus Cup.
“It was pretty good advice he gave me,” says Ruth with a laugh. “I was using a different brand at the time but I won't stop using the Callaways now!”
Ruth was so pleased with her prize she took the time to pen a letter to Golf Link to say thanks for the golf balls and had her friend email it on her behalf.
Ruth, who nearly lost her right foot at the age of four when she walked into the blade of a hay cutting machine on the family farm at Nairn, says the personal challenge of golf is what grabs her.
She's been hooked ever since a friend introduced her to the game in 1976 and she went on to win the Club Championship the very next year.
“All the good and all the bad are your own fault in golf, that's what I like about it,” says Ruth.
Ruth's thankyou letter appears below and is yet another testament to what makes golf the greatest game of all.
At 76 and with a severely damaged foot Ruth still plays twice a week and is still wracking up the wins even at this stage of her career.
Enjoy the Callaways, Ruth, and we hope you keep on winning for years to come!
"Thank you for the dozen Callaway golf Balls I won for being the B grade winner for South Australia.
What a lovely prize to receive. Our Golf Pro at Victor Harbor (Gavin Stratfold) suggested that I use a Callaway instead of another brand.
I do not have a computer and I was informed of my progress in the competition by my friend (Anna McBride).
I have been playing golf for 39 years and I enjoy my golf (good or bad) and play twice a week come rain or shine.
